O filme enganou todas as minhas expectativas. Achei que veria um filme policial ou algo do genero, mas fui surpreendido com uma história profunda e sensível sobre a vida de um ator enfrentando as mazelas de um corpo que envelhece, de uma memória que se apaga, de uma sanidade que que esvai. Pacino interpreta o papel com a maestria que lhe é natural, conferindo uma credibilidade orgânica e visceral. Recomendo muito a todos que assistam o filme.
Após a exibição, hora de ouvir o que o ator, nascido no East Harlem e criado no Bronx, em Nova Iorque, tinha para nos contar. Hora também de, quem sabe, fazer algumas perguntas. O bate papo, mediado, como sempre, pela produtora Tova Laiter, nos mostrou um ator extremamente humilde e sincero. Despido de uma gota sequer de arrogância em seu ser, Pacino se dedicou profundamente a cada questionamento que lhe foi feito, agraciando a todos ali presentes com explanações e respostas de uma veracidade surpreendente.
Em um dado momento, comentando sobre o filme, ele disse que o que acontece com o personagem é um de seus receios e possivelmente algo que também acontecerá com ele. Comentou também que a realidade do personagem é a triste realidade pela qual passa hoje o também admirável Jack Nicholson, aposentado por não mais conseguir memorizar as falas de seus personagens.
Em outro momento da conversa, falando sobre sua preparação para o filme Perfume de Mulher, lembrou da dificuldade em compor o personagem cego. Sem titubear um segundo, Pacino revelou que a solução veio da sua filha, com apenas 3 anos naquela época - Eu pedi para que ela interpretasse um cego, e ela simplesmente fez, ali na minha frente, perfeita.
Al Pacino se dedicava tanto a cada resposta que dava que quando a sessão de perguntas dos alunos da NYFA foi aberta, apenas uns cinco ou seis, entre os mais de 100 que se puseram em fila, conseguiram fazer suas respectivas perguntas. A cada questionamento vinha uma explanação de 15 ou 20 minutos, recheada de histórias e vivências.
Ele já figurava entre os meus atores e personalidades prediletas, agora mais ainda.
ENG • A few weeks ago, on December 4th, NYFA has graced me with an unique and unforgettable opportunity: attend the screening of The Humbling, followed by a questions and answers session with the main actor, Al Pacino. A kilometric line formed to get in the fully loaded theatre with hotly disputed places. There was people offering U$800,00 for someone to give away their places. Cameras and phones were prohibited, so the only photo I could take was one of the place minutes before the event (and the warning).
The film deceived all my expectations. I thought I would watch a police thriller or something like that, but I was surprised by a deep and sensible story of the life of an actor facing the tragedies of life, a body that gets old, a memory that fades away, the sanity that disintegrates. Pacino interprets the role with his characteristic mastership mastership, bringing an organic and visceral credibility to the work. I really recommend the film to everyone.
After the screening, time to listen what the actor, born in the East Harlem and raised in Bronx, New York, had to tell us. Also time to, maybe, ask some questions. The Q&A mediated by the producer Tova Laiter, as usual, showed us an extremely humble and sincere actor. At another moment of the conversation, talking about his preparation for the film Scent of a Woman, recalled the difficulty to create the blind character. Not thinking twice, Pacino revealed that the solution came from his daughter, 3 years old only at that time - I asked her to ply blind, and she simply did it, right before my eyes, perfectly.
Al Pacino dedicated himself so much to each answer when the Q&A opened to students that he could only answer five or six among the more than 100 that lined up to talk to him. After each question came an explanation of 15 to 20 minutes , full of histories and life experiences.
He was already one of my favorite actors and personalities, and now he is more than ever.
