PORT • Todo mundo sabe que Los Angeles é a capital do cinema americano, e sob certos aspectos, do cinema mundial, mas porque? A resposta fica evidente após alguns dias rodando pela região. Está tudo aqui, literalmente, e o que não estiver, está muito perto. A geografia colaborou muito em diversos aspectos.

Em primeiro lugar, a luz. Los Angeles está situada 34° ao norte da linha do equador, mais ou menos a mesma distância de Buenos Aires até a mesma linha, porém ao sul. Ok, e daí? Sabem aquelas sombras horríveis que o sol a pino projeta no rosto das pessoas, deixando os olhos fundos e as pessoas com aquela cara de zumbi? Aqui esse efeito é bastante reduzido pois mesmo ao meio dia o sol sempre mantém uma inclinação razoável, ou seja, nunca está a pino. Essa característica por si só já garante preciosas horas adicionais de luz aproveitável em uma diária de gravação ou fotografia externa.

Ainda sob o aspecto da luz, o clima aqui é maravilhosamente previsível, diferindo bastante do clima da cidade de onde venho, Curitiba, no Paraná, onde dizem acontecer as quatro estações em um só dia, todos os dias. Já ouviram aquela música “It never rains in Southern California” do Albert Hammond? Então, é verdade, em Los Angeles praticamente não chove, é garantia de tempo bom o tempo todo, uma maravilha pra qualquer produção (que não precise de chuva, rs).

Os pontos positivos não param por aí, o relevo é extraordinário também. Se você precisa de grandes áreas planas, tem aqui, se você precisa de montanhas e relevos íngremes, tem também. Se você quer praia, tem várias, de todos os tipos, das mais planas e suaves até aquelas com penhascos e falésias. Se você quer montanhas com picos nevados, bem elas não estão aqui, mas estão bem perto. O pessoal costuma brincar dizendo que na Califórnia você pode surfar pela manhã e esquiar durante a tarde, se quiser.

Obviamente não sou o primeiro, nem tampouco o último a perceber todas estas características, e por isso mesmo, a outra grande vantagem de estar por aqui é que existe uma infinidade de profissionais e negócios relacionados com a produção audiovisual e fotográfica aqui. É praticamente impossível andar pelas ruas sem esbarrar em alguma produção que esteja acontecendo ou algum profissional da área. Olhe em volta e eles estão em todos os lugares, é como um grande set de filmagem com milhares de quilômetros quadrados e milhões de profissionais todos juntos.

Resumindo, Los Angeles tem tudo.

ENG • Everybody knows that Los Angeles is the American Film capital, and under certain aspects, it is also the film capital of the world also, but why? The answer becomes evident after some days riding around the region. Everything is here, and the things that are not, are really close to here. The geography has collaborated a lot in many aspects.

First of all, the light. Los Angeles is located at 34° north from the equator, about the same distance of Buenos Aires to the south of the same line. OK, so what? Do you know that horrible shadows that the zenith sun usually projects on ones faces, creating those deep eyes and making those zombie like expressions? Here that effect is really reduced because even at midday the sun is not really high. This characteristic alone can guarantee precious additional hours of useful light to a day of outdoor filming or photographing.

Still on the light aspect, the weather here is wonderfully predictable, differing a lot from the city from where I come, Curitiba, PR (Brazil), where pe

ople say the four seasons happen in a day, every day. Have you ever listened that Albert Hammond's song “It never rains in Southern California”? Well, it is true, there is almost no rain in Los Angeles, it is a guarantee of good weather all the time, a wonder to any production (that doesn't require rain, LOL).

The positive aspects do not end there, the relief is wonderful too. If you need big flat areas, they're here, if you need mountains, they're here too. If you want a beach, there are plenty of them, of all kinds, from the flat and smooth to those with high cliffs and stone walls. If you want mountains with snow peaks, well they are not here, but they are not far. People have fun saying that in California you can go surfing in the morning and go skiing in the afternoon, if you want.

Obviously I am not the first nor the last one to realize all those characteristics, and exactly because of that, the other great advantage of being here is that there is an infinity of audiovisual and photographic production professionals and related businesses here. It is almost impossible to walk on the streets without bumping into some production or professional. Look around and they are everywhere, it is like a big movie set with thousands squared miles and millions of professionals, all together.

Summing up, Los Angeles has everything.
